My favorite soap has plots that explore feminist and civil rights issues that reach beyond the historical period it is set in. Furthermore, recently, it had a famous crossdresser play the (non-comic) role of the mother of one of the main characters. In addition, it had consistent good writing during the six months of its duration, proof that the boundaries of this kind of show can and should be pushed more often. I am happy I had the opportunity to watch such quality tv.
